Extinction

Extinction is a behavioral process in which a previously conditioned response decreases or disappears when the reinforcement or pairing with an unconditioned stimulus is removed. In classical conditioning, this occurs when the conditioned stimulus is presented without the unconditioned stimulus; in operant conditioning, it happens when the behavior is no longer followed by reinforcement.
